Art through craft. judith schaechter

I have been researching craft and fine art as I am in the process of building out my MFA application portfolio. I encountered Judith Schaechter in this search. She has an extremely elaborate approach, a great philosophy, and aesthetically pleasing work. That said her pieces evoke a story and sentiment that translate to conceptually motivated work. Art through craft.
Dream of the Fisherman's Wife 32”x48”

There is a predominant conversation in the art world - whether craft is art. Art can be craft - that is defined. I would have to say that if your intent is art and it is applied through a traditional craft medium, it is art. it should also be noted that art without craft - is nothing. Being as how craft is (as defined by webster)

–verb (used with object) to make or manufacture (an object, objects, product, etc.) with skill and careful attention to detail.

Art produced without - skill or attention to detail should not be considered art.

This piece above - one of my favorites: Specimens 25”x37”
